Wayside Gardens & Nurseries

The Wayside Gardens & Nurseries is situated at 6th Mile Tadong – (near the Youth hostel)-  is actually just along the National Highway 31 A, between Rumtek and Gangtok.

The Garden Centre – where there is a display of plants in a greenhouse of 4000 Sq ft and the surrounding areas – attached with a Café for beverages, refreshments and snacks with toilet facilities and ample in house parking space. This is enclosed in an area of about one acre where plenty of plants, orchids and exotic flora which is on display and sale. It is open for all visitors between 8:30 am till 5:00 pm everyday. Entry: free. Kindly use lower entrance – opposite Vaisnudevi Petrol Pump.

However, the greater Nursery and garden area of 6 acres, which has trees from the world over, masses of day lilies, exotic fruit plants – with over 50 kinds of citrus alone, commercial growing of orchids and over 90 species of Himalayan orchids growing in habitat like conditions, probably the largest collection of azaleas, ornamental bamboos, all within a dozen or more greenhouses and in natural landscape - just to name a few, is NOT open to walk-in visitors. It is also ideal for guided group tours for a couple of hours where a meal could be incorporated. The entry fee is Rs.400 a person with refreshments and a major meal at the Café and Rs.150 per person without a meal (with only refreshments) for a guided tour which takes between and hour to two hours.
