This monastery is the home of Lhatsun Chenpo’s largest statue. Moreover, manifestations of Sangdokpalri and Guru Padma Sambhava can also be witnessed here.

People

The people you will encounter here are the most warm hearted individuals you will ever meet. They are as enchanting as the scenery around them. The earliest inhabitants include the Lepchas. However, since the past several years Bhutias, Nepalese (who form the largest population of 70% presently) as well as plainsmen all survive here together and identify themselves as Sikkimese. Yet, they have retained their culture and history as can be reflected from their traditions and religions.

Buddhism as well as Christianity is practiced by most Lepchas. Originally, Lepchas were typically hunter gatherers. However, now, you will find numerous Lepchas involved within the government and playing very important roles.

Buddhism is followed by most Bhutias. In fact, monks play a very important role in their lives, especially during births, marriages and deaths. Farming and herding is typically the occupation of most of these Bhutias.

Next, regarding the Nepalese, Hinduism as well as Buddhism are the two main religions followed by them. While agriculture is the primary occupation practiced by most Nepalese, you can see several involved in all aspects of the government.

Thus, the genuine and honest persona of the mountainfolk will amaze you and their hospitality and caring and gentle nature will make you feel welcome.

For the permit application, photo identification copies are essential. They should be in hard copy. While 2 are usually required, sometimes 4 might be needed, especially when you are applying to visit Tsomgo lake as well as North Sikkim. For a hassle free trip, make sure you have applied for your permit via your tour planner or tour operator or travel agent much earlier to avoid any unpleasant surprises later.

Special permits and exceptions

Special permission is required to enter Nathula and Tsomgo (or Changu) lake areas for both Indians and foreign tourists. While Indians can obtain their permits from agents within Sikkim, Foreign regional registration offices must be contacted by foreign nationals in order to acquire their Inner Line permit (ILP). Similar outlets are also located in numerous countries.

If you are from Pakistan, China, Myanmar, or Bangladesh, there is one extra step. You need to get approved by Ministry of Home Affairs, situated in Delhi.

Climate

This region is prone to frequent landslides that can be dangerous (can we use very uncomfortable). Rainy seasons should be avoided for your trip to Sikkim. These typically include the months from June to September.

Holidays

Sikkim holidays might have an effect on your plans. The place you are trying to visit might be closed on the day, when you are making the trip! Hence, plan your trip accordingly so that you do not miss out on any part of your sightseeing list.

Thus, any Sikkim tour package introduces you to the permanency of the mountains and the stillness of the several lakes. The fragrance of the trees, flowers and mountain vegetation and finally, the soothing, yet, powerful rush of the countless waterfalls that you will encounter en route, are guaranteed to make your trip worthwhile and your journey, visually stimulating. Here, you can appreciate the silence, the calm surrounding the monastery and indulge in the solitude we fail to value in the plains.

If you are lucky, you might even spot the famous Red Panda (which is the State animal of Sikkim) which is beloved by the natives of this Hill station!
